The annual update to the Brewers Assocation Beer Style Guidelines landed this past week, bringing the total of recognized beer styles to 140. Added and defined this year: American-style Imperial Porter, American-Style India Black Ale, Belgian-Style Quadrupel and Fruit Wheat Ale or Lager.
These guidelines help small craft breweries design, brand, and market their delicious concoctions. Occasionally, the guidelines even help a homebrewer figure out the strange brew they've just mad-doctored together in their "laboratory."
