Short's and Dogfish Head Collaboration

This beer better show up in the Chicago market eventually (though not likely), because it sounds genius. The story goes that Short's got a morale boost from Sam of Dogfish Head, and finally, these friends are brewing something together. One ingredient from each brewery's state, a contribution from Nick Floyd of Three Floyds (you know, because why not?), and a twist on the Baltic Porter is born.

Beach plums from Delaware, horehound from Michigan, red popcorn from Indiana. I kind of want to make a summer trip to Northern Michigan, if this beer doesn't end up with any distribution.

New beer from Short's Brewing - The Curl American Pilsner

Is there really an American Pilsner style? Yellow fizz macros aside, maybe there really is or could be an American Pilsner? And if so, are imperials allowed? Short's says yes to all of these things, and is now bottling The Curl, described by them as:

"One of the first Imperial beers made at Short’s, this American Pilsner has an appealing clear, bright, golden straw color. Faint esters of fresh baked bread and grain aromas precede the flavor resulting from the abundance of flake maize used in this recipe. Hefty doses of hops create a pronounced dryness that seamlessly blends with the crisp, clean finish."

The hops used are apparently Amarillo. This probably lends a touch of citrus to the aroma and flavor of the pilsner, and a touch of spiciness (which is more like the traditional noble hops used in pilsners). Think Rogue Yellow Snow IPA or Three Floyds Gumball Head turned into a pilsner.

Half Acre/Short's Brewing/Piece Collaboration Still Available

Half Acre Beer Co, Short's Brewing (of Bellaire, Michigan and new to the Chicago market), and Piece's Jonathan Cutler collaborated in the name of all things Ween, creating a Guava Wheat India Pale Ale. They've named this beer Freedom of 78, after the Ween song of the same name (and Guava is a Ween record).

This was released last Friday, but bombers and maybe even some growler fills are still available at the Half Acre store.

Chicago Beer Collaboration Alert! – Piece, Half Acre, Short’s, inspired by WEEN

Piece, Chicago’s fantastic brewpub and pizzeria, teams up with our very own Half Acre Brewing Co and Short’s Brewing of Bellaire, Michigan, for the brewing of a Ween inspired IPA with Guava. The beer is fittingly named Freedom of 78.

Dear Piece – now tell us what pizza to pair with this fine brew when it’s available.
