Two articles from Stan Hieronymus of Appellation Beer

Both articles talk about what it means for beer to be local, and caused me to rethink the concept of local (that, and a recent stop at Goose Island).

First, an article from 2008, on what local might mean?

Second, an article on terroir in beer. Terroir is the french term for the special characteristics imparted to wine, coffee, and tea by the geography, geology, and climate of a place. There are many beers and beer styles with terroir-like characteristics.
