Beervana 2011, #2 - Firestone Walker

A big OMG Beer! welcome to Firestone-Walker, with their fantastic line of beers, many of which are aged in their own Union oak barrel system. These guys know how to make fantastic, barrel aged beer.

Firstly, the fantastic reserve series ales recently imbided at Chicago's Twisted Spoke.

Double Jack Imperial IPA - 9.5% ABV; from their website: "Double Jack IPA is our first ever Imperial IPA. It features a big malty middle to cloak the high alcohol and mouth puckering hop bitterness. Huge tangerine, grapefruit and juicy fruit aroma blossom over the herbal blue basil and malt earthiness of this aggressive beer. Best enjoyed in moderation."

Barrel Aged Porter - 5.9% ABV; from their website: "Walker’s Reserve is a elegant dark ale featuring robust flavors of toffee, caramel and bittersweet chocolate. This brew employs five specialty malts, as well as oat and barley flakes, for added complexity and flavor."

Both were fantastic delicious brews new to Chicago. Bombers should be available for a limited time in stores carrying craft beer. Some of their other beers recently became available as well, including their Union Jack IPA, Double Barrel Ale (english bitter/american amber style beer), and California Pale Ale. The Double Barrel and California Pale Ale are both fermented in their Union oak barrel system.

Also on the way soon, their Abacus Barleywine, aged in 20 year old Heaven Hill bourbon casks for 14 months!
