While we're talking so much about lagers...

It is fitting that while talking about lagers last month, OMG Beer! got asked on the street about Xingu Black Beer and black lagers. Technically called Schwarzbiers, these german originating lagers hail from the south and southeast of Germany originally, specifically Thuringia and Saxony. They look like a porter, with a smoother similar flavor profile, but drink like a medium-bodied lager, and tend to be lighter than you might guess from the color and look. No fruitiness from ale yeast present.

Besides Xingu Black beer from Brazil, here are some other Schwarzbiers:

Shiner Bohemian Black Lager - Spoetzl Brewery

Samuel Adams Black Lager - Boston Beer Company
Sprecher Black Bavarian - Sprecher Brewing Company
Kostritzer Schwarzbier - Kostritzer Schwarzbierbrauerei
