July Brewery of the Month - Metropolitan Brewing Company

For our first Brewery of the Month, we're honoring the best German-European-style brewers in Chicago, Metropolitan Brewing Company. Located in Chicago's Ravenswood neighborhood, Metropolitan's relatively new on the Chicago beer scene. As they point out on their homepage, they bring a balance and subtlety to the craft beer world's obsession with bold flavor.

Metropolitan's flagship beers focus on three germanic styles: Dynamo Copper Lager (a Vienna Lager), Flywheel Bright Lager (German pilsener), and Krankshaft (Kolsch, from Cologne). The currently available seasonal offering is I-Beam Alt, a style from Dusseldorf, Germany, and in some ways the rival beer to Cologne's Kolsch. From the Metropolitan website: "An Alt style beer is assertively hoppy with a restrained malt richness. Slightly dry, this beer pairs well with hearty, buttery German cuisine. We also suggest sipping it on its own; the complexity will keep you entertained and happy."

Read more of the I-Beam story at Chicagoist. Look for a review here soon.

OMG Beer! will be touring the Metropolitan brewery Saturday, July 24th, at 3PM.
