Ridgeway Brewing Co - Santa's Butt Winter Porter

Brewery: Ridgeway Brewing Co
Name: Santa's Butt Winter Porter
Style: English Porter
Origin: England
ABV: 6.0% ABV
Bitterness: Unknown, but probably in the mid 30s

Poured into a beer stein, the tan head settled, into a thin, slightly lacey ring around the glass. Deep red and opaque beer, with an aroma of milk chocolate, a hint of licorice, and a slight fruitiness. The mouthfeel is almost chalky; normally that might detract from the beer, but it goes well with the milk-chocolate forward flavor and earthy bittersweet fruitiness. Hard to pin down what makes this beer a winter porter. Santa's Butt comes off as fruitier than most American porters, and given the origin, this might be a heftier version of an English porter (which aren't often 6% ABV). Tasty at first, but comes off as a bit sweet, for a beer in a 25 oz. bottle.
