Harpoon 100 Barrel Series - Session 28 - Glacier Wet Hop Harvest Ale 2009

This hop harvest celebration ale pours amber, with an off-white and very lasting head. Very sticky lacing. The aroma hits your nose first with caramel and hints of fruitiness, that quickly give way to an almost earthy hops aroma and the suggestion of alcohol. Very balanced for an american pale ale, the flavor profile is more malt and breadiness than hops and citrus. Nice bitterness that doesn't overwhelm the beer, and the hop flavor is mostly just the suggestion of earthy spices. Not as upfront in hop flavor as you would expect from a wet hopped, harvest ale. Very drinkable for 6.7% ABV, and leaves a nice, subtlely sweet aftertaste.

Worthy of noting is the focus on Glacier hops in this Harpoon offering. OMG's Brewing Division, the West Town Brewing Company, has an upcoming fall wheat beer using Glacier hops and belgian wit yeast, combined with malty dark grains
